Biltong Buying Guide

Texture: Wet vs Dry

Wet/Traditional: Soft, chewy texture with more moisture. Perfect for those who prefer a tender bite. Best consumed within 2 weeks of opening.

Dry/Snapstick: Firm, crispy texture that snaps when bent. Longer shelf life and more intense flavour concentration. Ideal for snacking on the go.

Fat Content

Lean: Lower in fat, higher in protein. Clean taste that showcases the spice blend. Popular with fitness enthusiasts.

Fatty/Marbled: Rich, buttery flavour with visible fat marbling. Traditional preference for authentic South African taste. More indulgent texture.

Biltong vs Jerky

While both are dried meats, biltong and jerky are quite different. Biltong is air-dried (not smoked or cooked), uses vinegar in the curing process, and is typically thicker cut. The result is a more tender, less chewy texture with a distinct tangy, savoury flavour that jerky simply can’t match.

Biltong & Cured Meats FAQ

How should I store biltong?

Keep unopened biltong in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, store in an airtight container or paper bag in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Avoid plastic bags as they can cause moisture buildup.

Is biltong keto-friendly?

Yes! Our biltong is an excellent keto snack with high protein, moderate fat, and virtually zero carbohydrates. It’s also gluten-free and contains no added sugars or artificial preservatives.

How long does shipping take?

We ship Monday to Wednesday to ensure your order arrives fresh. Delivery typically takes 2-3 business days within New Zealand. Express shipping options are available at checkout for urgent orders.

What’s the shelf life of droëwors?

Vacuum-sealed droëwors lasts up to 6 months unopened. Once opened, consume within 2-3 weeks and store in a cool, dry place. The drier the droëwors, the longer it will keep.

Can I order in bulk for events?

Absolutely! We offer bulk discounts for corporate events, weddings, and parties. Contact us directly to discuss your requirements and we’ll prepare a custom quote for you.
